A councilman of Barangay Manlayag in Danao City and his six companions were arrested on Saturday for allegedly using illegal drugs.

Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, the city police chief, said Councilman Jinken Arenas and the other suspects were caught in the act of having a pot session inside an abandoned room at around 5 p.m.

Charges of violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, particularly on using illegal drugs will be filed before the prosecutors’ office on Monday.

Batobalonos said they will also give a copy of the complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas which has jurisdiction over elected government officials.

Taken from Arenas, the police chief said, was a sachet of shabu.

Also arrested in the operation were Riojie Laureño, Jonel Gomez, Joseph Laureño, Arnel Jopia, Tomasito Quimbo, and John Michael Rosales.

They are all detained at the Danao City police station stockade.
