By: Ador Vincent S. Mayol July 16,2016 - 09:44 PM

THE six police officers accused of allegedly extorting P200,000 from a female detainee they arrested for alleged possession of illegal drugs have until tomorrow to submit their affidavits.

“We will give them the chance to explain (as part of due process),” Chief Insp. Ryan Devaras, chief of the Investigative and Detection Management Branch (IDMB), said.

Devaras went to the Mabolo police precinct to check the blotter and gather other information on the case.

The names of the six policemen are withheld pending the result of the investigation.

Mia (not her real name) claimed that the six policemen went to her home in Barangay Apas, Cebu City at past 9 p.m. last July 14 and searched their belongings.

She said the policemen brought her 51-year-old mother to the police precinct for allegedly keeping illegal drugs.

After an hour, Mia said her mother called her through the cellphone, saying the police wanted to talk to her.

Mia said one of the police officers demanded P200,000 from her in exchange for her mother’s release.

Mia recorded her conversation with the police through her cellphone.

Devaras said they now have the full recording of the conversation which they will use in the investigation. “We will verify its authenticity,” he said.
