A councilman of Barangay Manlayag in Danao City and his six companions were arrested at 5 p.m. yesterday for allegedly using illegal drugs.

Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, the city police chief, said Councilman Jinken Arenas and six other suspects were caught having a pot session inside an abandoned house there.

Charges of violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them at the prosecutors’ office tomorrow.

Batobalonos said they will also issue a copy of the complaint to the Ombudsman-Visayas which has jurisdiction over elected government officials.

Taken from Arenas was a sachet of shabu. Also arrested in the operation were Riojie Laureño, Jonel Gomez, Joseph Laureño, Arnel Jopia, Tomasito Quimbo and John Michael Rosales.

They are all detained at the Danao City police station stockade.
