Pinoy stick-fighters start strong in 14th Wekaf World C’ships

Enjoying homecourt advantage, Filipino stick-fighters were quick to put on a show, surging atop the standings in Day 1 of the 14th World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (Wekaf) World Championships at JCentre Mall in Mandaue City.

In the 4 p.m tally, Team Philippines had a medal haul of 31 golds, 27 silvers and 12 bronzes.

The defending champion United States was in second place with 17 golds, 12 silvers and 14 bronzes.

Japan took the third spot with 12-6-6 (g-s-b) tally.

Occupying the fourth place was Canada with eight golds, eight silvers and eight bronzes.

Some 30 countries have signed up for the biennial tournament.
