Sanman’s Duno, Gaballo pocket WBC Asia belts

TUPI, SOUTH COTABATO — Romero “Dynamite” Duno and Reymart “Assassin” Gaballo proved too good for their respective opponents from Thailand to lead a dominating showing by Sanman Boxing Gym stalwarts last Saturday night in the ‘Battle in Tupi” fight card at the Tupi Municipal Gym here.

Duno knocked out Paiboon Lorkam early in the second round to snatch the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia super featherweight belt, while Gaballo needed just one round to dispose of Manot Comput to wrest the WBC Asia super bantamweight strap.

Duno bombarded Paiboon with body shots and dropped the Thailander in the opening round.

Paiboon survived the initial onslaught before Duno finished him off with an uppercut to the jaw in the 2:14 mark of the second round. It was Duno’s 11th win in 12 fights and now has 10 knockout victories.

Equally impressive was Gaballo, who put Comput to sleep in the 1:49 of the first round with a right to the head.

“I’m happy with my win, but I still have a lot of things to improve especially my speed and power,” said THE 20-year-old Gaballo, who remained unbeaten in 15 fights with 13KOs.

Gaballo is set to leave for Miami, Florida where he and other Sanman boxers will train under veteran Cuban coach Moro Hernandez.

Scoring their own impressive wins were John Vincent “Mulawin” Moralde (17-0, 7KOs) and “Magic” Mike Plania (11-0, 4KOs), who pulled off first-round KO victories over Hagibis Quinones and Jhon Rey de Asis, respectively.

“They’re still young but I believe they have what it takes to make it big someday. I believe in what they are capable of doing that is why I’m sending them to the US to further develop further their skills,” said Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude “JC” Manangquil.
