MICMIC Miranda took advantage of the tournament’s multiple try format to seize the lead yesterday in three events of the ongoing 8th Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (Cetba) Tenpin National Open at the SM City Cebu Bowling Center.
As of presstime, Miranda of Cetba leads the singles event with 1,333 pinfalls, the Masters event qualifiers with 1,782 and the Team event where he downed 449 pins.
He teamed up with Jake Yap and Ronan Barredo in the team event where they totaled 1,362 behind Yap’s 479 and Barredo’s 434, respectively.
They were trailed by Bowlingplex Tenpin Association (BTA) with 1,313 on Clifford Tan’s 426, Arthur Tapaya’s 441 and Luther Tapaya’s 446. In third spot is Cetba’s Celis Viloria, Davao Tenpin Bowling Association’s (Datba) Fernie Ballano and Mark Li who tallied 1,300.
Viloria (1,332) trails Miranda in the singles event with Cetba bowler Fred Torrequemada running third with 1,306.
Torrequemada meanwhile, trails Miranda in the Masters event qualifiers with 1,753 while Viloria is running third with 1,751 followed by Luther Tapaya at fourth place (1,750) and Cetba-EO Bucoy Consultancy’s Brian Sy (1,746).
The sixth to 10th placers in the Masters qualifying are Roland Bantilan (1,734), Barredo (1733), Arthur Tapaya (1,722), Makoto Osada (1,715) and Yap (1,687).
The top 36 scorers will advance to the Masters elimination round. Philippine Bowling Congress (PBC) President Engr. Guillermo Mallillin and PBC Secretary General Francis De Leon are also competing in the tournament.
The Masters champion will get P50,000 plus a trophy while the first and second runners-up will receive P25,000 and P10,000. The third and fourth runners-up will pocket P8,000 and P5,000, respectively. The Team event champion will win P15,000 while the Singles winner will bring home P5,000.
