Veco: No kite flying near power lines
THOSE who love to fly kites especially during this summer are warned to stay clear out of power lines to avoid causing brownouts or harming themselves.
In a statement sent to reporters, the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) said kites that get tangled in overhead wires can cause power interruptions.
Those trying to untangle them may end up being electrocuted, said Engr. Mark Anthony Kindic, assistant vice president for Veco’s engineering operations.
He said their records showed that 140 cases of power interruptions related to kite flying were recorded within their franchise area last year.
Kindic said kites should be flown in open areas away from overhead power lines, substations and other electrical installations.
