SWU learns important lesson in UniGames stint
ALTHOUGH the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma men’s volleyball team failed to make it to the semifinals of the Philippine University Games (UniGames) held in Dumaguete, the Spiking Cobras learned a valuable lesson that they hope to carry in the round-robin semis of the Cesafi volleyball tournament, which resumes next month.
“They need to improve their self-confidence in the game,” said the two-time Cesafi champion coach Dave Arreza of his team, which saw its title hopes shattered yesterday after losing to UAAP’s Adamson University (AdU), 3-0, in the UniGames men’s volleyball knockout quarterfinals.
Arreza believes, though, that SWU’s stint in the UniGames could help bolster its bid in the Cesafi semis.
“We need exposure in games,” added Arreza.
SWU-Phinma returns to the Cesafi on Nov. 11 as it battles the defending champions University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) for a spot in the finals.
SWU-Phinma and USJ-R currently have an identical 1-0 (win-loss) cards and would need just a win to advance.
