PROTECT THE STINGRAY
Netizens were aghast when they saw online, the photo of the 4.8 kilos of stingrays, a cartilaginous fish species that were seized by the Cebu City Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) from two vendors in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City last Tuesday.
A netizen named Tonie Allen wrote, “Everyone knows that stingrays are not sold because they are endangered animals. These people should be locked up in jail for good!”
Bling Arellosa reported that the same practice has also been going on in Barangay Pasil, Cebu City.
“The Marine Wildlife of the Philippines should watch over this. Daghan kaau namaligya ug stingray dinhi sa Pasil. Dugay nani, looy kaau ang mga mananap.”
(There are many who also sell stingray here in Pasil. This has been going on for a long time. I feel bad for the fish.)
Dory Casas gave an insight on how stingrays are treated in Thailand.
He wrote, “In Thailand, we breed stingrays, these gentle animal should not be treated this way. Fines are not enough to teach these people a lesson, they must be jailed.”
