CEBU CITY–The lawyer of Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa Jr., erstwhile biggest drug lord in Eastern Visayas, was shot in an ambush on broad daylight on one of the busiest streets in Cebu City on Monday.

Lawyer Jonnah John Ungab, also vice mayor of Ronda town in southern Cebu, suffered a gunshot wound in the head and was brought to a hospital in Mandaue City, Cebu.

His companion, wife Pearl, was unharmed.

According to SPO1 Winston Ybanez of the Cebu City homicide section, Ungab was driving his car past 11 a.m. when two unidentified assailants shot him along S. Osmeña Street, North Reclamation Area in Cebu City.

Earlier in the morning, Ungab accompanied Espinosa at the Qimonda IT Center, Cebu City’s courthouse, where the accused was found guilty of violating the election gun ban for carrying a firearm in 2010 although the illegal possession of firearms case was dismissed.

Ungab was the second lawyer of Espinosa who was ambushed by unidentified gunmen.

On Aug. 23, 2016, Rogelio Bato Jr., lawyer of Espinosa in Leyte, was shot dead by men on board a white pick-up and a motorcycle.

The perpetrators were never identified.
