Opposition councilors hit Osmeña on plan to take over BRT project
“Wake up Tom. You’re having a bad dream.”
So was the remark of Councilor Joel Garganera as opposition councilors hit Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s willingness to take over the BRT project.
In an interview on Sunday, Garganera said Osmeña hasn’t even finished constructing the Cebu City Medical Center and Mambaling tunnel.
“How much more taking over a project where he doesn’t have even a technical know-how,” said Garganera.
Councilor Raymund Garcia said the city government is inexperienced when it comes to implementing a public transport system.
He said maybe Osmeña is also planning to operate the BRT once it is operational.
He advised the mayor to think twice and leave operating a mass transport system to the private sectors.
The Cebu Chamber of Commerce also clarified that they are willing to support any decision of NEDA, be it giving the project to the city government or any group.
