CEBUANO Jun Duron has decided to say goodbye to the sport of cycling.
Duron, known for multiple awards in the cross-country masters category since 2013, decided to step away from the sport to focus on his responsibilities with his family.
“I think it’s hard but I have to let go of my passion and dream in racing,” said the 32-year-old Duron. “Family is the main reason (for stopping).”
The father of two is applying as a skilled worker overseas. For the meantime, he is taking care of certain family businesses while waiting for his job interview next month.
Duron has actually struggled this year.
His recent stint was in last weekend’s Philippine National Mountain Bike Championships in Danao City, where he failed to get a podium finish in the men’s elite competition.
He won the Mountain Bike XC Eliminator last February, placed 29th in the Asian Mountain Bike Series – East Ridge Sandugo International MTB in Rizal last March, and ended up 11th in the 7-Eleven Trail Series.
The pride of Talisay City rose to the occasion when he was crowned the overall champion in the Asian Mountain Bike Series in 2016. He also finished second in the ASEAN Mountain Bike Cup in 2015 and named master’s Philippine National Champion last year.
