Cebuano delegation arrives in Baguio before ‘Ompong’
The Cebuano delegation composed of athletes from Cebu City and Cebu Province has safely arrived in Baguio City two days before the super typhoon “Ompong” is expected to hit parts of Northern Luzon.
Both delegations are in Baguio to compete in the weeklong Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Batang Pinoy National Finals together with athletes from other regions.
Cebu Province Sports Commission (CPSC) executive director Atty. Ramil P. Abing told Cebu Daily News that they are safe and sound in Baguio City.
Both Cebu Province and Cebu City are billeted at the Doña Josefa Cariño Elementary School, which is located at the back of Baguio Athletic Bowl near Burnham Park and Baguio City Hall.
“We hope that (the storm) will not affect the entire meet,” Abing said.
Jopay Guanzon, one of Cebu City’s delegation official, also said that most of the athletes have arrived safely while some will arrive tonight, still way before the typhoon wreaks havoc.
The PSC yesterday announced that it will not cancel the meet but will forego the opening ceremonies on Sunday and instead start with the competition on Monday.
