AI-powered video surveillance to improve public safety, security

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Detecting potential disasters or problem situations nowadays requires sophisticated and technology-driven surveillance system.

This could be achieved through an artificial-intelligence-powered video surveillance system that could help improve public safety and security. Such technology is now made available in Cebu.

The Avigilon video surveillance system powered by artificial intelligence (AI) now provides almost real time detection of emergency situations, disaster or even crime incidents.

Cebu-based firm Hello Marketing introduced the Avigilon integrated security solutions to government agencies and businesses during a seminar that focused on ‘Embracing Artificial Intelligence for Public Safety and Security’ held on Wednesday, September 4, at the Golden Prince Hotel.

Francis Dy, general manager of Hello Marketing, cited the need for government agencies and businesses to embrace technology as a way to make their areas safer and secure.

Dy said they saw an increased demand for secure communications and AI video analytics surveillance system especially in the areas of peace and order, public safety and disaster preparedness.

“We are committed to providing an integrated solution for video security, access control and critical communications,” he said.

Dy cited as example the monitoring of rising water level, which could detected by a sensor and then reflected real time in the monitoring system.

William Evans, regional manager for Avigilon Philippines, Japan and Korea, explained that their surveillance system could provide warning about unusual or possibly risky situations.

The AI video surveillance system would immediately come up with a warning and send possible action to security personnel, Evans said.

Through their various camera models, the  Avigilon video surveillance system uses key technologies such as appearance search, unusual motion detection, focus of attention interface, high definition stream management, ultra high resolution and self-learning video analytics.

Jeffrey Law, Avigilon sales engineering manager, explained that one of their camera models can cover more areas than the common model.

This meant that fewer cameras would be needed when a company decides to set up cameras as part of the safety and security system, Law said.

Law said this system will also help collect information, make it actionable and securely distribute it across mission-critical devices and easy-to-manage networks.

Avigilon is a Motorola solutions company that designs, develops and manufactures solutions in video analytics, cloud, security cameras, video management software, hardware and access control. / celr
