Gov distributes bonuses for barangay workers

CAMOTES Island – Nearly 600 barangay workers in the towns of Tudela and Pilar here received their year-end bonuses from the Cebu provincial government ahead of the holidays.

Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale led the distribution of the workers’ productivity incentives to workers in this northern Cebu island.

Provincial Board (PB) Members’ Peter John Calderon and Christopher Baricuatro, both Liberal Party (LP) allies in Cebu’s 2nd district, led a simultaneous distribution of the cash gifts in the southern towns of Argao, Alcoy and Dalaguete.

Barangay employees who  include health workers, nutrition scholars, daycare workers and animal health aides received  P2,400 cash with another P1,500 each  for barangay tanods. About P3.27 million was set aside by the Capitol for  1,600 barangay workers serving in  the island’s four towns.

Finances

In his speech before  workers at Tudela’s municipal plaza yesterday morning, Davide said officials made sure that the cash would be released in December.

After Camotes, officials will proceed with the province-wide distribution and complete it  within the year.

“It was delayed last year because we just assumed office and we were finding ways to better manage our finances. We were able to distribute them in June and so we promised our BHWs that this year, we will give it in time for Christmas,” Davide said.

Davide also turned over  PhilHealth insurance cards of selected indigent families in Tudela and at Pilar town later in the day.
