LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu—Around 366 micro rice retailers in Central Visayas were given until Friday, October 6, 2023, to claim their financial assistance worth P15,000, under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

These micro rice retailers were affected by Executive Order No. 39 issued by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, which set the price cap on regular-milled and well-milled rice at P41 and P45, respectively.

Among the agencies involved in the program were the DSWD, Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), which worked hand in hand to protect the consumer and also to micro rice retailers, who were greatly affected by the implementation of the price ceiling.

Since E.O. 39 was implemented, the agency has already paid a total of 1,937 micro rice retailers and disbursed P19,055,000.

The names of micro rice retailer beneficiaries were endorsed by DTI, in coordination with the DILG.

Cash assistance was given to recover their losses, especially those who brought their rice at a much higher price compared to the price cap.

However, on Wednesday, the price cap on rice was already lifted.

Beneficiaries of the cash assistance will be monitored by the DSWD field staff within 30 days after the release of the subsidy.
