5th Saint Ignatius Run gets underway

THE fifth edition of the Saint Ignatius Run of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) high school batch 1990, kicks off today at the San Pedro Calungsod Templete in the South Road Properties (SRP).

More or less 2,000 runners composed of regular running buffs, SHS-AdC alumni members and students are expected to answer the 4:30 a.m. starting gun.

The run features a half marathon 21k race, 12k, 6k and 3k distances. The 21k finishers will get finishers medal and shirt while the 12k will get finishers medal only.

A total of P36,000 in cash prizes are at stake for the winning runners in the 21k and 12k distances. The 6k and 3k winners will get certificates according to organizers.

Proceeds of the run will be used to construct SHS-AdC’s proposed five-story Teachers Village in Canduman, Mandaue City which will give free housing to the school’s teachers.

The race also highlights the feast of SHS-AdC’s patron saint, Saint Ignatius which is celebrated every July as well as the school’s silver jubilee celebration.
Veteran race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running will handle the running event which covers the mountainside portion of SRP.
