A total of 30 Barbie dolls dressed in Pink were exhibited at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu on October 10 to 15, as part of the exciting events lined-up for Pink October.
The exhibit which was launched last October 10, was well attended by advocates of breast cancer, support groups, and personalities.
Guests during the cutting of the ribbon were Marissa Fernan, vice president of SM Prime Holdings, Inc., Tata Mempin, SM’s assistant mall manager, Mary Felma Aliño, coordinator of the Fashion Design Program of USC, Mary Ann Alcordo-Solomon of ICan Serve Foundation, and Marina Kauffman, president of Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente.
Barbie dolls’ pink dresses were uniquely designed by young designers from the University of San Carlos Fashion Design students who competed for the best gown design. Winners garnered prizes and recognition during the launch of Pink Barbie.
Student designer Caroline Borromeo got the first place in the competition in dressing up a Barbie doll while Matthia Tangoan bagged second place, and Elgreg Orais on the third place.
Aside from the competition, guests and shoppers had a chance to own the Barbie dolls for a price of P5,000. Proceeds will help fund the projects of ICanServe Foundation, a support group for breast cancer survivors.
