Compromise for ACT scholars

By: Jose Santino S. Bunachita December 10,2015 - 04:15 AM

The Cebu City government is willing to reach a compromise  with the Asian College of Technology International Educational Foundation (ACTIEF) on  payment for city scholars enrolled in the school.

A pre-trial is set today in the Regional Trial Court (RTC) on the petition for a declaratory relief filed by Cebu City over questioned  payment of its dues to ACTIEF.

“The petitioner (Cebu City government) is willing to enter into a compromise agreement with the defendants under terms and conditions that are just and equitable,” read a pre-trial brief submitted by City Hall lawyers.

Cebu City  owes P136.92 million to ACTIEF for the tuition of city scholars enrolled in the school from 2013 to 2015.

The City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) has not yet paid the amount although it has paid tuition for scholars in other  accredited schools, due to the pending case.

Cebu City Hall has been reluctant to pay the school after the Office of the Ombudsman declared  Cebu City South District Rep. Rodrigo Abellanosa guilty of grave misconduct when he signed on behalf of ACTIEF the scholarship MOA with City Hall even if he was still a city councilor then

The defendants in the case for declaratory relief are ACTIEF and/or Asian College of Technology and the Department of Education-Cebu City Division.
