IN support of the World Climate Summit, the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. will hold an exhibit featuring the works of Cebuano designer Francis Sollano and 12 product design students of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu.

The exhibit, called “From Waste to Hip: A Creative Paradigm,” highlights the use of trash in creating fashion accessories known as “Trashion.” It will be held starting today until December 18 at the Romulo Hall.

Joyce Gonzales, a senior product design student of UP Cebu, said they did not think their works would be displayed in the US.

“We were surprised actually. We didn’t know that our works will be going to Washington because the original plan was to exhibit it in a bazaar here in Cebu,” she said.

Gonzales said the change of plan made everything enthusiastic. The exhibit is a big opportunity to showcase their creative outputs.

“It’s kind of exciting because this is really a big opportunity for us to be exposed in such a big event,” she said.

She also said she is thankful to her mentors for the help that they have given.

“All thanks to Miss Mona Alcudia, Miss Christy Manguerra and Sir Francis Sollano,” she said.

Francis Sollano, one of the leaders of Youth for Livable Cebu, was recently recognized as Creative Mover by Rappler.
