School pupils reenact nativity scene

Elementary pupils in both the public and private schools in Mandaue City participate in the live belen inter-school contest at the Mandaue City hall grounds.

The contest runs from December 17 to 19.

Last December 17, pupils from St. John Paul II Condition School, Collegio de Immaculada Concepcion-Mandaue, Mandaue City School for the Arts and Paknaan Elementary School did the re-enactment of nativity scene. The participants portrayed the role of the three wise men, Joseph and Mary. They also sang worship songs.

Today, December 19, students from City Central School, Subangdaku Elementary School and Tabok 1 Elementary School will perform live for the tableau contest.

The tableau contest was conceptualized by Mayor Jonas Cortes’ wife, Sarah Walker-Cortes, eight years ago to pay homage to Jesus Christ and to strengthen one’s faith.

Mandaue public information officer Roger Paler said the competition will also help the participants become aware of the birth of Jesus.

Last year, the tableau contest was participated by the high school students of Mandaue City.

The winners of this year’s contest will be announced after today’s presentation.
