CAIB to tabloid: Stop lewd stories

By: Marc Eric Cosep February 11,2016 - 09:49 PM

THE Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board (CAIB) will ask a tabloid circulating in the city to stop publishing lewd and very descriptive stories.

Lucelle Mercado, Cebu City administrator, said yesterday that they will call the attention of the paper’s editors, writers and the stories’ author.

Mercado was referring to the series of fiction stories titled “Mga Eba sa Paraiso ni Adan,” written by Dro Arts and published in Banat News.

Mercado said they found out that these kinds of stories had been published again in the paper since December.

CAIB has been monitoring the tabloid’s stories since December 29, 2015 until January 26, 2016.

Mercado said some of its contents contain words such as “mga panglawasnong kalipay (physical happiness),” “mga rosas ni Lira (the roses of Lira)” and “syagit sa kalipay ug himaya sa kalipay (shouts of joy and glory of happiness).”

“You see, if we put this into context, it suggests indecent thoughts to the youths,” said Mercado.
Queenie Bronce, Editor-in-Chief of both The Freeman and Banat News, told Cebu Daily News through a text message that she has not received CAIB’s invitation yet, but  she will always be open to discuss the issue with them.

Bronce also said that it was never the paper’s intention to publish lewd articles.  She said the stories even tackle family issues.

She also emphasized that the stories are “definitely not smut.”
