CATALINA Torremocia waited in vain for her husband Dario, a fisherman, to come home.
Dario, 51, had gone fishing on Friday night. He later dropped by their bare and unfinished house on Banacon Island to give his wife P200 cash and his catch. He left shortly, supposedly to go to a relative.
“Naghuwat ko niya gikan pa gabii sa Biyernes hangtod Sabado sa buntag, pero wa siya miabot. Nakahibaw na lang ko nga namatay daw siya mga alas onse na sa buntag kay naapil siya sa pinusilay,” Catalina said.
(I waited for him from Friday night to Saturday in the morning, but he never came. I was only informed about his death at past 11 a.m. on Saturday).
Torremocia was among three people killed after police swooped down on the island-barangay of Banacon off Getafe town in Bohol last Saturday dawn to arrest suspected drug lord Rowen Secretaria.
Catalina said she forgot about drying the fish that her husband gave her on Friday night. She had to throw these away because these had begun to smell bad.
“Nalabay nalang nako ang mga isda. Sakit kay mangingisda ra man akong bana. Wala koy alam ngano naabot siya didto, ngano namatay siya (I had to throw the fish away. It hurts because my husband was just a fisherman. I don’t know why he was there, why he was killed),” a tearful Catalina said.
The remains of her husband were brought home on Sunday afternoon with the help of Banacon barangay captain Rodrigo Ismael.
Instead of preparing food for the fiesta celebration today, Catalina said she would be busy with her husband’s wake.
“Hikay lang ginagmay para sa mutangbong sa haya. Kung naay mamista, amo ra sad abi-abihon,” she said.
