Demecillo now in Mexico for crucial showdown with Sanchez on Jan. 19

PHILIPPINE super flyweight champion Marco Demecillo (19W-1L-1D, 14 KOs) of the RWS Gym of Cebu has arrived in Mexico for his showdown against rising Mexican prospect, David “Tornado” Sanchez (23W-2L -2D, 18KOs) for the vacant WBA International super flyweight title on Jan. 18 (Jan. 19 in PH) at the Gimnasio del Estado, in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
In an article posted on the Spanish language boxing website notifight.com. Demecillo and Sanchez were shown signing autographs for fight fans at the municipal market in Hermosillo.
Sanchez was quoted as saying that he knows that Demecillo is a very good fighter but he will impose his will to win the title and for the opportunity to fight for a world championship.
Demecillo is a last minute substitute for Breilor Teran of Venezuela, who was Sanchez’s original opponent. Demecillo answered the call because his handlers are confident that he is in good shape having spent time as a sparring partner in Japan. This is the first overseas fight for Demecillo.
Sanchez beat Demecillo’s stablemate Marlon Tapales by majority decision last year also in Hermosillo. Sanchez has also beaten boxers who have fought here in the Philippines – Jean Piero Perez of Venezuela, who was knocked out in one round, and Juan Kantun of Mexico, who lost to Sanchez by TKO in the seventh round. Both Perez and Kantun went the full route in their respective fights against ALA Boxers Milan Melindo and Rocky Fuentes.
Demecillo bounced back from his unanimous decision loss to Arthur Villanueva of the ALA Gym in Davao City last year by beating Giovani Escaner in Dipolog City.
