64 rescued from stranded ro-ro vessel off Bogo
SIXTY-four passengers were rescued from a roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) vessel when it encountered a transmission problem off Capitancillo Island in Bogo, northern Cebu last Friday afternoon.
Agapito Bibat, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Cebu Station commander, said the MV Super Shuttle Ferry 10 left Isabel, Leyte, at 11 a.m. on the same day bound to Polambato Wharf in Bogo.
“The vessel stopped within the vicinity of Bogo. We were able to rescue them and transferred to smaller vessel,” Bibat told Cebu Daily News.
A motor banca named Tres Marias was used during the rescue operation of the passengers.
Of the 64 passengers, 28 of them were left on board at the MV Super Shuttle Ferry 10 since the crew were able to fix the rubber damper attached on the vessel’s transmission. There were eight crew on board while the ship captain was identified as Armando Resogento.
The ship is owned by Asian Marine Transport Corp. and is measured at 38.51 meters long and weighs 353.82 gross tonnage.
The vessel had 12 rolling cargoes on board. Bibat said he will ask the ship captain to submit a marine protest on the incident.
The MV Super Shuttle Ferry 10 was able to dock at Polambato wharf at 4:45 p.m. on the same day.
