Two more Cesafi volleyball players to transfer to UAAP, set to debut in season 81
Two more volleyball players from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) will be bringing their talents to the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
This after University of San Carlos’ (USC) Jeffrey Alicando and Mary Jane Igao have decided to leave their Cebu team to join the Adamson University (AdU) Falcons in the UAAP. Both will be eligible to play in season 81 in 2019 due to the UAAP residency rule.
The 19-year-old Igao, who impressed the coaches of the Lady Falcons in the tryouts held in Cebu last month, admitted she had a hard time making a decision on whether or not to accept the Adamson’s offer.
“I was recruited (by Adamson) then the opportunity would just go to waste if I don’t grab it. Actually, I was thinking twice about leaving USC because I’m going to graduate next year. My decision to transfer was already last-minute,” said the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management student.
Igao, who hails from Bogo City, northern Cebu, said she is grateful to her family for supporting her decision and for pushing her to grab the chance of improving her game.
Alicando, meanwhile, is an Ormoc City native who has been lured by the Adamson men’s team since last year.
Just like Igao, the Bachelor of Physical Education -School of Physical Education (BPE-SPE) student said it was tough for him to leave his USC teammates behind. But he had to make a decision because he wants to continue his studies.
“Some of my subjects in USC were delayed, that’s why I decided to join AdU to continue my studies. Those subjects were delayed because I did not take them last semester then when I enrolled this semester, I still can’t take them because there are pre-requisites,” Alicando said.
Other Cesafi spikers who transferred to schools up north this year include Cebuanas Clavel Dejito, Zenneth Perolino and Alla Caputolan, who signed with the Far Eastern University, and Pol Salvador and James Buytrago, who moved to the National University.
