Games today:
Cebu Coliseum
1 p.m. – DBTC vs UV (High School)
2:30 p.m. – CIT-U vs SHS-AdC (High School)
4 p.m. – CEC vs USPF (High School)
5:30 p.m. – SWU vs USJ-R (College)

THE UNIVERSITY of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars hope to join the University of San Carlos Warriors at the top of the heap. But to do that, they must hurdle the hungry Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras today, in the 17th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

USJ-R is coming off a dominant, 97-60 win over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University but will be facing an acid test today against a SWU-Phinma team whose pride was wounded in their, 49-59 loss to the University of Cebu Webmasters on opening day.

The trio of RJ Dinolan, Miguel Gastador and Jaybie Mantilla will be raring to play after getting limited playing time against the overwhelmed Wildcats. They’ll be backed up by their man in the middle Nelvin Navarra, sophomore forward Albert Catiloc and a host of newcomers who are excited to put their talents on display.

The Cobras on the other hand, will be extra antsy after missing their mark for most of their game versus the retooled Webmasters. Veteran guard and undisputed leader Jun Luz managed just a point, Shaquille Imperial had just three while skipper Mac Racho went scoreless in their debut.

A trio of high school games are also on tap today with four-time champions Ateneo de Cebu, Don Bosco and the University of the Visayas all gunning for their second victories this early in the season.
