“We should make sure that federalism can bring progress and development especially in Mindanao and the Cordilleras and not chaos.”

Ilocos Gov. Maria Imelda Josefa “Imee” R. Marcos gave this advice when asked about his take on the issue of federalism.

“We are also excited about federalism, but let’s make sure it would bring progress and development especially in Mindanao and the Cordilleras and not chaos,” said Marcos, who was in Cebu on Friday as a guest of a Filipino-Chinese group in Cebu celebrating the law allowing easier way for Chinese citizens to become Filipino citizens through naturalization.

Governor Marcos said that the law was created by her late father and former President Ferdinand Marcos.

She said that the Filipino-Chinese community in the country had celebrated the creation of the 40-year-old law.
However, Governor Marcos discussed the federalism issue during her stopover in Mandaue City where she made a courtesy call to Mandaue City

Mayor Gabriel Luis “Luigi” R. Quisumbing, and the City Council.

Governor Marcos said that she was visiting her nephew — Mayor Quisumbing, who gave the governor a coffee table book of Mandaue and a miniature symbol of the Marcelo Fernan bridge as tokens from him and the city government.

Governor Marcos also gave a token product from Ilocos to Mayor Quisumbing.

On the federalism issue, Mayor Quisumbing also said that tCebu had not been dependent with Manila.

He, however, did not elaborate.

Aside from federalism, Governor Marcos also discussed local government unit functions with the City Council members, who also welcomed the governor on her visit at the City Hall.
