Cebuano helps PH team finish sixth in ITF event
CEBUANO Venz Louise Alforque put up a respectable performance as he steered the Philippines into a sixth-place finish in the 2016 Asia-Oceania Final Qualifying WJT-ITF Junior Team Competitions over the weekend in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
The redemption-seeking Philippine team composed of Alforque, Jose Antonio Tria and Michael Francis Eala scored a nail-biting 2-1 win over India to salvage the sixth place. It absorbed a heartbreaking loss to the eventual champions China, 3-0, in the first round of the playoffs
In the earlier rounds, the nationals scored victories over Kazakhstan, 2-1; Lebanon, 3-0; before losing to Korea, 0-3; and ending their elimination round campaign with a 2-1 (win-loss) slate.
