‘Hey Bigats’ category in R399 race

ALREADY in its fourth year, the R399: Live Your Dreams will once again take the center stage with another running event starting at the Sumilon Road of the Cebu Business Park today.

This race pays tribute to Dr. Ramon Igaña Jr., who succumbed to acute pulmonary embolism during the bike leg of the first staging of the Cobra IronMan 70.3 Philippines here in Cebu in 2012. His bib number was R399.

The tribute run, which has 3-kilometer, 6k and 12k distances, is organized by Igaña’s wife, Dr. Humility Igaña, who is a long distance runner.

She told Cebu Daily News that the main highlight for this year’s edition is addition of the “Hey Bigats” category for plus-sized runners.

In order to qualify for this category, the male participant must weigh 170 pounds or more while female runners should be 140 pounds above.

Ironically, in last year’s race, a Canadian runner also succumbed to cardiac arrest while running the 12k distance.

With this, Humility is advising those will be joining today to “listen to their body during the race.”
