ONE died while five were injured in a collision between a 10-wheeler truck and an L300 van at Barangay Poblacion, Toledo City at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

PO3 Chris Gaco of the Toledo City police identified the fatality as 21-year-old Christina Belecario who failed to make it at the Toledo City District Hospital.

Those injured were 54-year-old City Treasury employee Sandy Alqueza, Mark Cabanilla, Diola Cabanilla, Rozhelle Abellanosa and Maximo Belesavio, all of barangay Tubod, Toledo City.

Gaco said the truck driven by Dennis Trays of barangay Poblacion, Pinamungajan just came from Pinamungajan town and was headed north to barangay Sangi when the brakes malfunctioned.

The van driven by Alqueza was hit on its rear portion by the truck which ran over Belecario and the aunt of her common-law partner who carried her one-year-old son at the time.

Alqueza, Abellanosa, Diola, Mark Cabanilla and Belesavio sustained cuts and injuries. Gaco said tests confirmed the truck’s brakes malfunctioned. Traya is now detained at the Toledo City police precinct.
