A memoradum of understanding was signed between officials of the University of the Philippines Cebu (UP Cebu) and Shu-Te University (STU) of Kaohsiung, Taiwan at the AVR 1 of UP Cebu to promote academic collaboration between the two schools.

Atty. Liza Corro, acting chancellor of UP Cebu, said they are looking for the possibility of setting up a research partnership especially in management and creative design.

“Since they are also a Chinese-speaking country, we could also assist them in learning various cultures in the world,” Corro said.

Dr. Yuan Hsiang Chu, STU President, said they have a lot to offer since they are one of the best design schools in the world.

“We have known before about the UP System, but we just knew about UP Cebu. After a few visits, we realized that we odder similar programs, especially both institutions offer design courses,” Chu said.

The week-long program of activities between the two schools will include breakout sessions on management, formulation of UP Cebu’s Master of Design program, emerging interdisciplinary research on textiles and tours to various UP Cebu campuses and offices of various government officials in Cebu.

The said event was attended by various officials of the institutions and Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
