Regional chiefs still at work

A DAY after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered presidential appointees to submit their resignations, regional Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) director Ahmed Cuizon said he may wait a week before deciding what to do.

“There is no formal directive (written) from our central office yet,” Cuizon told Cebu Daily News.

Cuizon is both an appointee of former president Benigno Aquino III and a Career Executive Service Officer (CESO).

“I really don’t know if I’m exempted or not. It is not clear to me yet, that is why I’m waiting for an official directive that will clarify matters,” Cuizon said.

He is on duty but is not signing special permits and other documents.

Cuizon assumed the LTFRB regional post in 2010 and transferred to the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) as assistant general manager.

But he was re-appointed to his old post back by Aquino in the middle of March this year.

Acting Land Transportation Office (LTO-7) regional director Alita Pulga said she isn’t affected by the order.

Pulga said she has been appointed by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade to assume the post after former LTO regional director Arnel Tancinco ended his coterminous post.

Pulga said she is covered by the exemption as stipulated by the Civil Service Law.

“Operations continue here in the regional office. We are not affected with the President’s order,” she told Cebu Daily News.

Regional Director Antonio Labios of the Department of Energy (DOE) said he is also unaffected by the President’s order. Labios is CESO V.

“We are just responding to what the central office has told us,” Labios said.
