Passenger jeepney dispatcher’s remains found near Compania Maritima
THE remains of a passenger jeepney dispatcher was found near Compania Maritima building along South Road Properties (SRP) at 4:30 am Wednesday.
The man was identified as 27-year-old Mario Calumpiano, who resided in barangay San Roque, Cebu City.
SPO2 Romel Bangcog of the Cebu City Police Office-Homicide Section said Calumpiano died due to a gunshot wound on his head and was believed to be asleep when he was shot.
Calumpiano’s body was found lying in a mattress located less than a meter from the SRP highway. One empty shell of a 9-mm caliber pistol was recovered from the area.
JJ Plajes, an informant and Calumpiano’s friend, said he heard a gunshot at 11 pm on August 23. The day before he saw four unidentified men roaming around near Compania Maritima, surveying the area as if finding somebody.
Plajes confirmed that Calumpiano had been using illegal drugs. He had been living in a shanty near the seawall and was a leader of some group within the area. Bangcog said they don’t know what group it was.
Bangcoc said this was the 27th drug-related killing this month. Calumpiano’s remains were brought to St. Francis Memorial Homes in N. Bacalso Avenue, Cebu City.
