A TOTAL of P150,000 in cash prizes are at stake in the 447th Cebu Province Founding Anniversary Run slated this Sunday starting and ending at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds.

The prize’s biggest chunk will go to the winners in the 20-kilometer open division. Champions in the men’s and women’s in both the local and foreign categories will pocket P10,000 each. Second and third placers will receive P7,000 and P5,000, respectively.

In the 10K all-local category, top three men and women finishers will take home P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000. Top three boys and girls winners in the 5K grassroots division will get P3,000, P2,000 and P1,500, respectively, while 3K top three runners will take home P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000.

To spice up the event, there will be an exclusive race among Capitol employees with the top five taking home P5,000, P3,000, P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000. Those who will make it to the top 10 will have a consolation prize of P500 each.

Lawyer Ramil Abing, executive director of the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC), said at least 800 runners have signed up for the race as of yesterday.

Abing said they are expecting a hundred more to register as the race will have an on-site registration on race day.

“We are hoping that the race will be a big success as we are planning to stage not just one but a series of races in different municipalities in Cebu next year,” said Abing in yesterday’s press conference at the Legislative Building of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

Also present in the press briefing was CPSC official Brando Velasquez, who said the footrace will be the culminating activity of the monthlong celebration of the Cebu Province’s 447th founding anniversary.

Registration fee is pegged at P500 for the 20K run and P300 for the 10K. One may register at the Cebu Provincial Office or at the Cebu City Sports Center.
