A policeman is in critical condition after being shot several times by a robber inside a motel in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City at dawn Wednesday.

PO1 Erwin Pepito, who’s assigned at the Borbon police precinct, sustained gunshot wounds in the chest, stomach and neck.

PO2 Jason Flores, desk officer of the Centro police precinct in Mandaue City, said security guard Jeffrey Geniza recounted to them that an unidentified man poked a gun at him and took his service revolver as he declared a hold-up.

Ethel Baricuatro, cashier of the Hidden Lodge, said she gave the cash proceeds worth P2,580 and the robber also took her mobile phone. PO1 Pepito heard the commotion and grappled with the robber whose cohort shot the police officer several times.

PO1 Pepito was rushed to the Chong Hua Hospital in Mandaue City’s reclamation area. Security camera footage is being reviewed to identify the suspects.
