CEBUANA Olympian Mary Joy Tabal, with the help from her team Motorace-Kawasaki Racing and the Rotary Club of Cebu, will organize a running event dubbed “Chairs of Joy, a Fun Run” tentatively set on Oct. 1 starting at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds.

The event aims to come up with funds for the Guba Elementary School, which needs 400 armchairs. The school is the alma mater of Tabal. Distances offered are 5 kilometers and 10k, with age groups in each. There will also be a “Clash of Captains” team challenge. Here, team captains who competed in the original C.O.C of last month’s Cobra IronMan 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships will choose five team members to compete in the race. They have to finish together.

The event will actually serve as the highlight of the opening of registration for next year’s Cobra IronMan 70.3 Philippines.

Even though the running event is still a month away, the Rotary Club of Cebu headed by Bernard Vonn Sia has already approved the delivery of 100 armchairs to the Guba Elementary School. Yesterday, 200 more arrived in the school courtesy of Tabal’s corporate backer, Motorace Philippines.

Registration fee for the race is pegged at P350. Registration centres are at the Runnr Ayala, Cebu City Sports Center and at SM City Cebu.
