Cop shot by robber to receive award
THE policeman who was shot by a robber in Mandaue City last Wednesday will receive an award from the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).
Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, PRO-7 director, said PO1 Erwin Pepito went the extra mile when he tried to arrest a robber even if he was off duty when the incident happened.
“We will give him the highest award he deserves,” said Taliño in an interview yesterday.
Pepito, who is assigned in Borbon town, northern Cebu, checked in at a motel in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City when he heard a commotion.
He went out of his room and saw a man holding up the motel’s cashier with a handgun.
Pepito grappled the robber for his firearm but the latter’s cohort intervened and shot the policeman.
The three robbers fled with the proceeds of the establishment amounting to P2,580 and the cashier’s mobile phone.
Pepito suffered gunshot wounds on the chest, stomach and neck. He was rushed to Chong Hua Hospital in Mandaue for treatment.
Taliño said Pepito was declared out of danger.
“Pasalamat tayo sa Dios. Sana malampasan niya ito (Thank God. I hope he will get through this situation),” he said.
With the use of the cellphone left by the suspects, the Mandaue Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) conducted a follow-up operation and arrested the three suspects in Consolacion and Liloan, north Cebu.
