Around a hundred people held a protest rally on Saturday morning against the construction of a funeral parlor in Barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City.

The rallyists, who are residents in the area, lived behind the 7,000 sq.m. lot where the funeral parlor named Fonus Cebu will be built.

The residents claimed that the funeral parlor would be a health hazard to their area and that the ongoing construction lack permits.

But Fonus Cebu’s Chairman of the Board Reynaldo Gadianco said they had complied with and had the permits from Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, the ECC (environment compliance certificate), the DOH (Department of Health), OBO (office of the building official) among others.

Gadianco said that they would continue building the funeral parlor and operate it since it is a legal business.

At least 10 police officers and barangay tanods were deployed in the area during the protest action.
