Honda hopes to discover new talents through major race

TO discover new talents and strengthen its grassroots program for motorsports are the main driving points for Honda Motorworld Philippines to stage a major race on Oct. 16 at the Kartzone in Barangay Mabolo. The race is dubbed “Honda Motorworld One Make Race.”

Juno Villena, operations manager of Honda Motorworld believes that there are lots of talents out there who remain undiscovered due to scarcity of resources and races.

To help this specific sector, organizers decided not to collect any registration fee in the event which will have seven categories using the Honda Beat scooter.

“We don’t limit the number of participants for this race. Everyone can join as long as they have the proper gear and equipment because we want to scout talents in Cebu,” said Villena during yesterday’s press conference at the Kartzone.

The race will have several legs spread until next year all at the Kartzone.

Villena said they will separate riders who have low cost bikes and those who have modified bikes and will focus more on those who use stock engined bikes.

“Most of the participants cannot afford expensive modifications on their scooters and bikes that’s why we decided to focus more on providing a race for those who use stock engined bikes to give them exposure and experience,” added Villena.

Part of their objective is to form Cebu’s very own team which will be sent to the national finals of the Honda Motorworld One Make Race next year in Luzon. Since there are also many female riders in Cebu, they are also considering of forming an all female team.

Taiwanese riding skills development expert Henson Hu was also present yesterday. He conducted a free clinic on how to develop riders’ skills in maneuvering sharp curves and turns. The free clinic is held every month at the Kartzone.
