ELITE teams from the Visayas and Mindanao will see action in the 2nd Dragons in Argao: The Dragon Boat Inter-Barangay Clinic and Competition on Oct. 1 at the Argao Royal Palms, in Poblacion, Argao, southern Cebu.

The race, which is presented by the municipality of Argao, Argao Royal Palms, GAME Inc., and Primary Homes Incorporated, will have teams coming from Bohol, Dumaguete and Cagayan de Oro.

“We are promoting the sport in the coastal municipalities around Cebu, and we are hoping that they will take on the sport as part of the whole town’s endeavor,” organizer Jerome Mill said.

Four Cebuano teams will also defend their home seas, including a team from Bogo. Cebu teams that are expected to join are the Gruppo-Paramount Habagat and Lexmark Security Dragons.

The race will follow a 250-meter course and will feature the men’s open, mixed (men and women) and the local barangays category. A special all-women’s and persons with disabilities (PWDs) races will also highlight the event.

Cash prizes, medals and trophies await the top-three finishers of each category.

This weekend, there will be an interbarangay clinic organized in preparation for the race, which is considered to be one of the biggest this year.

“Hopefully in the future, we could develop world-class paddlers like our national team who are treated like rockstars anywhere they go in the world,” Mil added.

The race is organized by the Go Active Marketing and Events Inc. and will cap off the day with a fire dance party in the evening.
