JOHN Russel Misal of Team Tatand ruled the men’s open single of the 25th Erne Jawad Table Tennis Cup, which ended yesterday at the Atrium of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Misal edged out Isias Seroño of Team Lopita in a five-set thriller, 11–6, 7–11, 16–14, 6–11, 11–7.
In the girls under-13 championship game, Iloilo’s Jade Dellariarte defeated Micah Teniate of Lopita, 11–8, 11–9, 11–6, to win the crown.
In the women’s open single, Marell Lagunday took home the gold while University of Cebu’s Lindy Daplo settled for silver.
UC’s Kent Edwin Abellanosa also finished first in the boy’s under-18 contest, while Iloilo’s Alian Gayoso ranked second. UC’s Eljey Dan Tormis salvaged a third place finish.
Tormis did not go home empty handed as he ruled the under-13 singles category . Bohol’s Zaki Lakea and Makati’s RJ Manlapaz wound up second and third respectively.
UC swept the girl’s under-18 category with Diana Oliverio, Lindy Darlo, and Erika Villanueva snatching the gold, silver and bronze respectively.
The Jawad Cup attracted more than 500 participants from all over the country. It is the longest-running table tennis tournament in the country.
