Two people drowned in separate incidents in Cebu last Sunday.

Around noon last Sunday, a five-year-old child drowned in a swimming pool in a resort in Barangay Tungkil, Minglanilla town, southern Cebu. According to Manolo Delgado, son of the owner of the resort, the victim identified as Hedge Daniell Gala was found by other customers already floating in one of the pools. Delgado said the victim was able to go to the 4-foot swimming pool unnoticed.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man who had gone swimming in Bantayan, Cebu drowned after jumping from a pump boat on Sunday morning.

Victim Govannie Paraiso Bacalso is a native of Negros Occidental but was staying with his wife Marivic in Barangay Cogon Ramos, Cebu City. The newly married couple went to Bantayan on Saturday to attend the wedding of Govannie’s brother. Around 5 a.m. last Sunday, Bacalso and his wife reportedly borrowed a motorized boat owned by Francisco Escaran. They didn’t use the boat’s motor as the victim said they wanted to experience paddling a boat. After an hour, Marivic went back to the shore to ask help from fishermen after Govannie dove into the sea. The victim reportedly did not know how to swim.
