UV downs rivals Ateneo de Cebu in Milo Best
THE DEFENDING champions University of the Visayas (UV) grabbed the top seed in the SBP division of the Milo-backed BEST Cebu SBP/Passerelle basketball tournament as they defeated the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu-A, 36–29, last weekend at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
UV trailed early after managing a mere two points in the first canto but steadily made their way back before finally taking over in the third and powering their way to their fourth win in five games and gain the same win-loss record as their victims.
Mike Monton scored 14 while Sean Salarza added 10.
Ateneo de Cebu-A had earlier blasted the University of San Carlos (USC), 55–25, before falling to UV later in the weekend.
In other matches, Don Bosco won its first game with a 44–15 shellacking of Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma while Ateneo de Cebu-B compounded SWU’s woes with 58–23 victory, also their first of the tournament in four tries. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
