Search for East squad coach continues as Cesafi All-Star games fast approaching
Round and round it goes, who will be the coach of the East All-Star team in the 16th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament in the collegiate All-Star game this Sunday? Nobody knows.
This, after for the second time in as many days, the Cesafi changed coaches following the unavailability of University of San Carlos (USC) mentor Rommel Rasmo.
As it is, the league has tapped multi-time head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba of the powerhouse Southwestern University-Phinma to handle the reins of the team that combines the forces of the Cobras, USC and the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters.
Initially, UC’s Kern Sesante was set to be head coach of the East squad but was replaced by Rasmo as he is still in Australia. However, Rasmo also begged off the gig as he had previously planned a family engagement this weekend.
When told of the assignment given to him, Alcoseba was surprised and told this writer that he too had other plans this weekend, leaving the East without a coach as of the moment. Alcoseba added that he will first confer with his staff before making a decision.
The coaching assignments of the Cesafi All-Star games was met with raised eyebrows since the coaches were bared the other day. For the first time, coaches of the top teams will no longer handle coaching duties of the All-Star teams after the league decided to give those coaches who have yet to experience the opportunity to do so.
The West team is being coached by Albert Alocillo of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, the sixth seed in the upcoming quarterfinals
