Pardo precinct’s bills blamed on vendors

Even Cebu City police aren’t spared from illegal wire tappers, who are blamed for their huge monthly bills at the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco).

Councilor Dave Tumulak, deputy mayor for police matters, said he was told by Veco about five vendors of the Pardo public market who were tapping into the power lines of the adjacent Pardo police precinct for their power supply.

“Veco is already doing its own investigation. They will look into the previous bills of these suspected illegal power tappers,” Tumulak said.

The Pardo Police Precinct’s power bills ranged between P32,000 to P34,000.

Despite this, Tumulak said the Pardo Police Precinct only has has six computers and three air-conditioning units.

He said Veco personnel removed the illegal connections at the back of the police precinct.

He said the Pardo precinct had no idea about the monthly bills for the past year since these were remitted directly to the General Services Office (GSO) at City Hall.

Tumulak also raised concern over the water bill of the Guadalupe Police Precinct which ranged between P16,000 to P20,000 a month.

The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) has yet to check the precinct’s water connections for possible leaks and other causes of the huge water bill.

“They should really check their stations because it’s an insult for our police personnel that they are being robbed,” Tumulak said.
