CEBUANOS emerged overall champions in three categories of the Smart National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships, which came to a close Sunday night at SM Seaside City Cebu.

Cebuano jins bagged the overall championship in the junior boys, junior girls, and senior women categories.

Cebu City collected three gold medals, one silver and two bronzes in the junior boys category while the junior girls jins bagged two golds, two silvers, and a bronze. In the senior women’s action, Cebu raked a gold, two silvers, and one bronze.

“They have been training hard and they deserve it,” Philippine Taekwondo Association – 7 (PTA-7) Regional Director Tony Del Prado said. The tournament, which was one of the biggest PTA-sanctioned events in the nation, was held outside Metro Manila for the first time. Because of how well Cebu hosted the event, organizers decided to hold the tournament here again next year. PTA Committee on Games Chairman Rocky Samson confirmed this announcement last Saturday.

“One of the reasons we were asked to host is because of our relative success in this divisions and we have contributed a good number of players to the national pool,” Del Prado said.

Gold medalists for Cebu were University of Cebu’s (UC) Dineson Cañeda, Niel Patrick Seares, and Dominic Sator in the junior boys category; UC’s Mayn Coran and Zozen Prajes in the girls’ category; and Andrea Toleroso in the senior women’s category.
