The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars remained the only undefeated team in their division as they handed the erstwhile unbeaten Sacred Heart School-Ateneo De Cebu (SHS-ADC) Magis Eagles their first loss of the season, 25-23, 25-21 yesterday to claim the first semifinals ticket in the CESAFI girls volleyball tournament at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.

After a close opening set, the Baby Jaguars looked well on their way to another easy win as they erected a huge, 10-4 advantage in the second highlighted by a big kill by
Janine Angob.

But the Magis Eagles did not go down easily as they banked on the offensive exploits of Jennifer Delos Santos, Danielle Malazarte and Kaye Santos who combined for nine points in an, 11-4 Ateneo blitz to give their team a, 15-14 lead midway in the second set.

However, Baby Jaguars’ Krizzia Caasi and Lyn Ross Densing had a ready answer for Ateneo’s run as they combined for seven kills during an, 11-7 USJ-R offensive attack that doomeds the hopes of the Magis Eagles.

Also in girls play, the USPF Baby Panthers finally broke into the win column after crushing the winless UC Baby Webmasters, 25-21, 25-13.

In the boys division, SHS-ADC manhandled DBTC, 26-24, 25-19 while USPF frustrated CIT-U, 25-13, 25-21.

In the men’s division, USJ-R pummeled UC, 25-16, 25-17, 25-14 while UV endured the scrappy defense of CIT-U en route to a four-set triumph, 25-17, 25-20, 11-25, 25-22.
