Focus on job, police urged

POLICE should stick to ensuring peace and order and focus on providing service to the community.

Police Regional Office (PRO-7) Director Noli Taliño gave this statement after he received reports of police officers allegedly involved in crime incidents this week.

Taliño encouraged the police to focus on being a police officer and not to deviate to illegal activities.

“This is our bread and butter, ang pagpupulis. Huwag na nating haluan ng ibang butter, ‘yung pagpupulis nalang, pagseserbisyo natin,” he said.

Last Wednesday, four suspected drug pushers were nabbed by the police after a series of drug busts in Barangays Lahug and San Nicolas.

During the investigation, a suspect allegedly linked a non-commissioned officer as allegedly protecting their illegal drug activities.

It was the second time the name of the policeman emerged in drug investigations as he was also included in the President’s list of police officers who allegedly coddled drug operators.

“We are still running an investigation to prove the allegations against the policeman, hindi natin palalampasin ‘yan,” said Taliño.

On Tuesday, a police officer, who was allegedly drunk, allegedly threatened detainees of the Barili Police Station, and allegedly hit one of the detainees with his gun.

Talino said they were investigating the incident.

Despite these incidents, Taliño assured reporters that the number of deviant policemen in the region is very minimal.

He said their efforts on internal cleansing are still on-going.

He pointed out that the contributing factor to this is the strong political will demonstrated by the police chiefs, the national police director, and even the president himself.
