DBTC, SHS-AdC boys set up gold match in Cesafi
The Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves and the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles beat separate semifinal foes yesterday to set up a dream championship duel in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation (CESAFI) secondary football tournament at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) field.
The defending champion Greywolves easily dispatched the University of San Carlos-Basic Education (USC-BED), 4-1, while the Magis Eagles rallied against the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation, 3-2, in yesterday’s semis matches.
CESAFI football tournament director Francis Ramirez told CDN that DBTC and SHS-AdC have been the dominant teams in the Cesafi the past years and added that this year’s final is every football fan’s dream encounter.
Miguel Mercader opened DBTC’s scoring binge when he found the back of the net at the 15th minute. Kyle Robles started the second half with another goal for the defending champs at the 46th minute before Clyde Oyitusra made it 3-0 for the Greywolves with a goal in the 60th minute. Dustin Ramirez pegged DBTC’s final output at the 73rd minute mark.
Nickclaus Taok prevented an embarassing shut-out loss for USC-BED by scoring in the 83rd minute.
Meanwhile, SHS-AdC rallied from a 1-2 deficit and ended the regulation period with a, 2-2 draw. In the extension, Leo Maquiling exploited the Panthers’ weakening defense to score an easy goal at the 15th minute of the extra period to punch SHS-AdC’s ticket to the championship.
USP-F initially went up, 2-1, on goals from Ivan Marcel Ouano (57th) and Pyke John Ouano (68th). Reo Osawa of SHS-AdC scored the game’s first goal at the 38th minute before Sean Kyle Go nailed an equalizer at the 82nd minute which resulted to an extension.
Today, USC-BED and USP-F will play for third at 8 a.m. followed by the DBTC and SHS-AdC’s championship match at 10 a.m.
Meanwhile, the collegiate games between USC and UV and USJ-R versus UC all ended in scoreless draws.
